DEEDEE O'MALLEY - LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARDS SINGER/SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR

Deedee O’Malley has been writing songs since she was 13 years old. Her songs can be heard on soundtracks for Dawson’s Creek, Party of Five, Joan of Arcadia, Beautiful People, and Strong Medicine.  This year, Deedee was the composer for a Whimsical Children’s television Pilot called the Wiz Kids!  

This Los Angeles Music Awards Singer/Songwriter of the year has opened for Glen Campbell, Stephen Bishop, Al Stewart, Ambrosia and shared the stage with LeAnn Rimes, Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers, just to name a few!

Having grown up influenced by musicians such as James Taylor, Carol King and Joni Mitchell, Deedee touches audiences with her own style and viewpoints on life. Deedee’s music reaches the heart of an extremely diverse audience. Deedee’s fans come in all age groups. Her truly captivating voice and writing style enlighten listeners while being realistic enough to resonate with people’s everyday lives.

The most difficult thing to do is compare Deedee to other artists. She has been compared to Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crowe, Jewel and other female artists. Deedee has also been described as a female combination of James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel!

Deedee has been writing songs since the age of 13. Her intelligent lyrics capture the hearts of so many people; and her contagious melodies linger on in the minds of her fans long after her performances have ended.

Deedee has a BFA in Theatre Arts from Hofstra University and has performed in over 60 musicals. While living in New York City, Deedee created one of the characters for the children’s show, Sneakers which is still running Off-Broadway after 10 years. She also wrote "Show Yourself" and "The Right Track Now;" two of the show’s most memorable songs.

Deedee began supporting herself in New York by singing jingles for clients like Avis Rent a Car, Heinz Ketchup, and IBM. Later, she sang background vocals for Patti LaBelle, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Jermaine Jackson and The Pointer Sisters and, after moving to Los Angeles, opened for Country legend, Glenn Campbell.

As a songwriter, Deedee has created a library of hundreds of musical gems. She has so mastered the craft of songwriting that she now teaches classes and seminars on the subject, giving new songwriters a start on the basics and even helping veterans turn a good song into a chart-topping hit.

Deedee has released four CD's, Simple and Beautiful LA. The Outside and New York Girl.  Her current projects are performing with her band, Size 7 Hat, of which she is lead singer and principal writer, teaching songwriting to select students and writing music for film and television.
